The use of Digital Technologies (farmer app) and Communication Strategies implemented by Youth to enhance Economic activities in the Fruit Sector
August 13, 2020The spread of the Covid-19 virus not only has health consequences but also an adverse impact on economic activities, notably the export of mangoes from Côte d’Ivoire.
At a General Assembly meeting held last month in Korhogo, mango stakeholders (Inter-mangue) reflected on the difficulties of carrying out mango exports given increased incidences of the corona virus in Europe and the special measures put in place by the Ivorian government to reduce the spread of the corona virus (COVID-19).
After hours of discussing, all the actors came to realize the difficulties they will face in carrying out the harvesting and export activities under the measures taken by the government.
However, between hope and despair, while waiting for support from the government, actors fixed the opening date of the mango export campaign for April 12, 2020, with a farm gate price of 117.5 FCFA / kg or € 0.18 / kg of mango.
It is to recall that Intermangue remains a key partner for the HortiFresh program and support planned to start in March 2020 under the cluster fund are also impacted by the situation. All HortiFresh field activities are now postponed and limited to individual support by HortiFresh Agronomists present in Korhogo. In the absence of field activities, the HortiFresh program will continue its support to mango actors by informing them on the latest and main news related to the development of the international market, in particular the European market, until the situation improves and field activities can resume.
