FAGRO 2016
GhanaVeg together with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and four other Dutch companies exhibited at the 7th National Food & Agricultural Show (FAGRO) 2016 held at the International Trade Fair Centre La, Accra. The orange decorated booth housed the Embassy, Tikola Ghana, GhanaVeg, Iribov Tissue Culture Company and Celtic Cooling. The exhibition was organised for farmers and participants to learn modern techniques of agribusiness.
Opening
The opening ceremony was graced by the Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Ron Strikker, Deputy Minister for Agric, Dr. Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan and other dignitaries from donor agencies.
Speaking at the Launch, the Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana Mr. Ron Strikker expressed how pleased he was to participate in the show. He said “Ghana has the potential to create a modern, vibrant and competitive agribusiness sector and to do this, the private sector must lead.” He said, Ghana must ensure a competitive and diversified sector with access to regional and global market. He also mentioned the Netherlands’ commitment to ensure trade ties between Ghana and them becomes stronger through the GhanaVeg initiative and other projects doted in the country.
He expressed his appreciation to organizers of the fair for consecutively organizing FAGRO for the 7th time. He was hopeful that the fair would bring business contacts and opportunities to individuals and all exhibitors.
Delivering the keynote address on the theme “Preparation, Knowledge & Training =Business”, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Dr Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan indicated that Agriculture has become a realized Profession and a life-long vocation for economic and social development of individual, communities and nations at large and therefore needs attention. He acknowledged the immense contribution of development partners in support of Ghana to achieve the objective of reducing poverty and attaining economic growth through accelerated agriculture development.
The three day exhibition saw about 40 companies exhibiting their products and services. There was a wide range of innovative business ideas and products from small scale to medium Ghanaian and foreign companies. Adding to the exhibition were field visits and seminars to encourage business ideas that will be developed further into proposals for funding. The Deputy Minister together with all dignitaries officially opened the exhibition and made a tour around various exhibition booth.
