Access to finance is a critical but challenging aspect in the horticulture sector in Ghana. As a result, HortiFresh as part of activities to facilitate the process, has commenced the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) concept in the Keta, Denu, Tuobodom, Afrancho and Akomadan clusters for farmers.
So far, two (2) groups of 15 and 25 have been formed in onion areas of Keta, Denu with laid-down bye-laws and constitution to govern the group. In tomato area of Tuobodom also, two (2) groups of 30 have been constituted and begun meeting and collection of weekly savings.
This activity is to encourage farmers to inculcate the habit of saving which will provide a self-reliance financial support to individuals and associations as a whole.
