- The evaluation and deployment of locally appropriate improved varieties of key vegetable crops facilitated
- Engage breeders (international seed companies) and seed marketers (local seed enterprises) and secure their buy-ins
- Evaluate the performance of improved vegetable varieties
- Facilitate business-to-business (B2B) linkages between breeders and marketers
f. Latent demand for quality seed of improved vegetable varieties converted to actual demand
-
- Conduct on-farm demonstration of improved vegetable varieties to directly generate demand for improved seed varieties
The project will produce the following key deliverables at the end of the implementation period:
- Four partnerships established with seed companies
- Two on-station and 2 on-farm trials established
- Field trials of at least 120 entries of 3 key vegetable crops implemented
- Commercially available varieties of at least 3 key vegetables evaluated in 2 field trials
- Three open field days with B2B events held before end of the project
- One report on market performance, drivers, gaps and opportunities produced
- Better-performing, adapted, market-appropriate and farmer-preferred (elite) vegetable varieties identified and promoted to farmers
- Linkage created between at least 10 marketers/breeders on one side, and 2,700 farmers exposed to new technologies, on the other side
- At least EUR 10,500 secured from seed companies to run the seed platform
- Document on the cultivation of best-performing varieties, and performance characteristics, as well as economic benefits produced and made available to stakeholders
